Background
Established in 1957, Washington Tool and Machine Company, Inc. (WTM) operates a large machine shop, which specializes in machining large roll shaped forgings and castings, as well as rolled steel rings. Our plant contains over 130,000 square feet of manufacturing space in four primary bays, with overhead crane capacities up to 50 tons. We operate 24 hours a day, five days a week, or six days, as needed. Our workforce has substantial experience in the machining of large, heavy rolls and rings, as well as other large fixtures.
For the machining of roll products, we have three large manual lathes and twelve CNC lathes, several of which exceed 125 horsepower. The largest swings 60 inches in diameter and can accommodate a piece 660 inches in length. For rings and flat round shapes, we have twelve vertical boring mills and chuckers, with swings up to 144 inches. Six of these machines feature CNC controls, enabling us to accurately produce complex contours.
Washington Tool and Machine Company is also equipped to perform milling and drilling operations on a wide variety of pieces. Our CNC drilling and milling machine will accurately drill holes and mill shapes on parts up to 96 inches wide by 101 inches long. We can perform other vertical, horizontal, and duplex milling on an as needed basis.
We serve a large number of customers, both regional and national. They include Union Electric Steel Corporation, The Davy Roll Company, Superior Forge and Steel Corporation, Akers National Roll, WHEMCO, and Johnstown Corporation. We also serve all of the major ring rollers, including Ringmasters (an affiliate of Scot Forge), Ovako-Ajax, Inc., and Rotek Inc.
We are widely regarded for high quality machining and on time deliveries and we are recognized as a trusted corporate neighbor throughout Washington and Western Pennsylvania.
Washington Tool and Machine Company is located in Western Pennsylvania, about 25 miles southwest of Pittsburgh, in the City of Washington. We are near the junction of Interstate Highways 70 and 79, directly on US Route 40.
